This vintage wooden hub is the central hub of a two-bladed solid wood propeller dating from the 1920s. A surviving piece from a complete set, it bears the legible original markings typical of handcrafted aeronautical production between the wars. The PS. SIMENS is visible in the wood. The quality of the construction, in solid glued laminated timber using the techniques of the time, is representative of the manufacturing standards for civilian and military propellers of the period.
The peripheral holes for attaching the blades and the central bore are intact and well defined. The wood has a beautiful amber patina acquired over the decades, with the natural signs of wear typical of an object that has actually been used. No restoration has been carried out, and the piece is presented in its original condition.
With its compact proportions and sculpted volume, this vintage wooden hub fits naturally into an industrial interior or an aviation-themed collection. A rare item on the secondary market, especially in this state of preservation.

Solid wood propellers were the standard in both civil and military aviation until the mid-1930s, before being progressively replaced by variable-pitch metal propellers. Manufactured from selected timber species — walnut, ash, cherry, or mahogany — they were built by bonding multiple wood laminations oriented in opposing directions to distribute mechanical stress. Each propeller was a semi-handcrafted object, individually adjusted and balanced by hand.
Early 20th-century European manufacturers, including several German and French workshops, developed their own construction techniques, identifiable through their markings and assembly methods. These propellers equipped touring aircraft and military training planes alike, from the First World War through the immediate post-war period. Their hubs, as mechanically critical components, stand today as evidence of the level of craft expertise achieved by this emerging industry.
