This small Bauche safe is an early 20th century model, dated circa 1920, presented complete and in perfect working order. The thick-walled, solid cast-iron structure reflects the manufacturing standards of the period. The front features an oval medallion in relief bearing the manufacturer's signature, typical of Bauche products from this period. The door, framed by a forged joint, fits into the body of the chest with precision and no apparent gap.

The metal parts have been completely restored, with a matt graphite finish that enhances the original texture of the forged metal while ensuring its long-term protection. The lock has been completely overhauled and the safe comes with two keys, including the original one. The mechanism operates without any abnormal resistance, with the firmness expected of a safe from this era.

This small Bauche safe is a popular piece of antique industrial furniture for collectors and lovers of vintage or industrial-inspired décor. Its compactness, substantial weight and overall condition make this example a rare find for a safe of this age, as complete models with a working mechanism and original keys are hard to find these days.

Bauche is one of the oldest and most reputable French safe manufacturers. Founded in the nineteenth century, it established itself as a leading supplier for private individuals, businesses and banking institutions, thanks to its robust construction and highly reliable locking mechanisms. Bauche safes from the Belle Époque and the 1920s are recognized for the quality of their cast iron construction, characterized by thick walls and forged hardware.

The smaller format models produced in the 1920s were intended for shopkeepers and self-employed professionals looking to secure cash and documents in a discreet and sturdy piece of furniture. These pieces, often passed down from generation to generation, now appear on the collector’s market in highly variable condition. Complete examples, with functional mechanisms and original keys, have become particularly sought after.
