This superb Caille Cadet slot machine is an exceptional collector's item, produced by the famous Detroit firm Caille Brothers in the early 1930s. Fully restored, it features a customised bright red and chrome finish in the colours of Coca-Cola, combining the aesthetics of gambling with those of the world's most iconic soda brand. The original mechanism, renowned for its robustness and silent precision, works perfectly with 1 franc coins, a common adaptation for machines imported into France.

The Cadet model is distinguished by its Art Deco front in cast aluminium and its compact but imposing architecture. This Caille Cadet slot machine is presented here on a dedicated metal stand, heavy and stable, echoing the characteristic stepped design of the machine's base. The original reels, with their symbols of fruit (cherries, lemons, oranges) and bells, are preserved under their bevelled glass, offering the authentic gaming experience of the Prohibition era.

As well as being fun to play with, this machine is also a spectacular decorative object. The gleaming chrome of the arm (the famous 'one-armed bandit'), the coin box and the ornaments contrast magnificently with the deep red of the body and the varnished wood side panels. It is a fascinating testament to American mechanical engineering between the wars, designed to last and to catch the eye in the speakeasies and shops of the day.

The 1930s marked the golden age of “slot machines” in the United States, despite an often murky legal context linked to Prohibition and anti-gambling laws. Caille Brothers, nicknamed the “Rolls-Royce” of slot machine manufacturers, distinguished itself from competitors like Mills or Jennings through more sophisticated mechanics and particularly quiet operation, hence the name of their “Silent Sphinx” or “Silent Cadet” series. This discretion was a major asset in avoiding the attention of authorities during raids on speakeasies.

The aesthetics of these machines evolved to become true works of industrial art. The use of aluminum and bright colors aimed to catch customers’ eyes in the dim environments of nightlife establishments. Fruit symbols, initially introduced to mask the “gambling” nature of the machines (by pretending they dispensed fruit-flavored chewing gums), became the universal casino standard, persisting long after the legalization of gambling in Las Vegas.

Rare Caille Cadet slot machine, an icon of 1930s casinos restored in the colours of Coca-Cola.
