Thomarr’s work follows in the tradition of New Realism, evoking Arman’s accumulations or César’s compressions, but with a resolutely urban and playful sensibility. By fossilizing popular toys in concrete, a material symbolizing modernity and the city, the artist creates “relics of the future”. He freezes a carefree era, that of the 90s, in artificial stone.
This concrete tower acts like a geological core sample taken from an imaginary sediment composed of our childhood memories. It tells a story of saturation, of perpetual traffic jams, but also of preservation. These toy cars, destined to end up forgotten or destroyed, find here a second immutable life, elevated to the rank of precious artifacts testifying to our material culture.
