This Goldorak Shogun Warriors Mattel figurine is an original piece from the Shogun Warriors range launched by the American giant Mattel in 1978 to capitalise on the success of the manga and anime Grendizer (Goldorak in French). Measuring 60 cm, the figurine faithfully reproduces the design of UFO Robo Grendizer: an electric blue square head with a helmet adorned with two curved golden wings; a prominent black torso with a large red heart in relief at the centre; a yellow chest featuring combat motifs; blue arms with broad shoulders and movable red fists; and blue legs with black thigh pads accented with red rivets. The original decals — emblems, markings and graphic details — are intact and vibrant. All licence markings are present and legible: ‘Dynamic Kikaku’, ‘Toei Doga’ and the Mattel stamps, attesting to the item’s absolute authenticity.

The figure is in immaculate condition: the plastic shows no discolouration, cracks, warping or mechanical wear. The joints (arms, legs, head) retain their original range of movement. The decals are fully intact, with no chipping, tearing or scuffing — a rare feature for a figurine of this size and age. The figure is confirmed to be complete: all original moving parts and accessories are present. The absence of the original box, which is reflected in the price, slightly reduces its collectable value, but the rarity of a figure of this age in such good condition makes it exceptional.

This Goldorak Shogun Warriors Mattel is a centrepiece for collectors of vintage toys from the 1970s, enthusiasts of manga and anime culture from the golden age, specialists in Mattel Shogun Warriors figures, and international fans of Grendizer/Goldorak. Exemplars in such good condition, with intact decals, are now extremely rare on the secondary market, making this acquisition particularly desirable for collectors seeking authenticity and quality.

Grendizer (known as Goldorak in France) is an anime created in 1975 by Toei Doga and Dynamic Kikaku studios, based on a concept by Go Nagai, a titan of manga at the time and creator of Mazinger Z and Devilman. The series follows the adventures of UFO Robo Grendizer, a giant robot piloted by an alien prince exiled on Earth, fighting against a malevolent extraterrestrial army. The anime became a global phenomenon during the 1970s and 1980s, broadcast in more than 60 countries and generating a worldwide wave of merchandise — toys, models, figures — among children and collectors around the world.

In 1978, Mattel, the American toy giant at the height of its influence, launched the Shogun Warriors line to capitalize on the growing success of super robot anime. This range offered large articulated figures (50–60 cm) representing iconic robots: Grendizer/Goldorak, Mazinger Z, and others. Distributed worldwide, these figures became bestsellers among children and retain significant collector value today. Original French examples in such fine condition are rare and sought-after acquisitions, representing a tangible bridge between the golden age of vintage toys and the remarkable era of anime in the 1970s.

Goldorak Shogun Warriors Mattel, original 60 cm figure from 1978, from the American giant’s Shogun Warriors range. Complete, without box, original decal intact, featuring ‘DYNAMIC KIKAKU’ and ‘TOEI DOGA’ markings. In impeccable condition, a rare collector’s item for fans of vintage robots.
