Easily customizable, these dispensers were often dressed in the colors of the brands present in the locations where they were installed — particularly the major oil companies, who saw them as an additional advertising medium for their customers.

Founded in 1901, Gulf Oil Corporation established itself as one of the historic oil companies of the United States, recognizable by its orange and blue logo displayed on pumps, signs, and promotional objects at American service stations throughout the 20th century.
