4,9 – 175 avis
This vintage ticket validator is a piece of railway equipment measuring 40 cm in height, comprising a circular black cast-iron base accented with red bands, a curved arm supporting the body of the machine, and a polished brass front panel engraved with ‘Dresler & Dry’ and bearing a serial number. The perforating mechanism, featuring small wheels, is housed at the base of the front panel, along with its small brass chute for receiving the ticket. The whole unit weighs approximately 12 kg, a testament to its robustness.
The item is complete and in impeccable condition, retaining its original patina: the cast iron retains its deep black colour, the red bands remain visible and the brass retains its golden sheen. The manufacturer’s markings are perfectly legible. A ticket validator from this era, complete and so well-preserved, is an increasingly rare collector’s item.
This vintage ticket validator is aimed at collectors of railway equipment and station artefacts, enthusiasts of railway history, as well as lovers of industrial design seeking a distinctive piece for an office, a library or a loft-style interior. Its exposed mechanics and cast iron and brass construction make it a truly decorative piece.

Founded in 1938, the SNCF unified France’s major railway companies and, in the post-war years, organised the reconstruction and modernisation of the network. Station ticket offices of this period were equipped with specific counter equipment, including ticket validators, used to stamp or perforate tickets in order to control travel and prevent reuse — a gesture familiar to all travellers of the time.
These mechanical devices in cast iron and brass, designed to withstand intensive daily use, remained in service at French stations until the progressive automation of ticketing from the 1970s onwards. Retired from ticket windows, these validators have since become sought-after collector’s items, witnesses to the daily life of railway workers and the industrial aesthetic of mid-20th century French rail equipment.
A vintage ticket validator used in SNCF stations (1945–1970), also known as a ticket canceller or ticket punch. Manufactured by Dresler & Dry, a cast iron and brass piece weighing 12 kg, complete and in immaculate condition.
