This Bayard fire hydrant is a Lyon-made fire hydrant dating from 1920-1930. Made entirely from cast iron, it is distinguished by its markings, in particular the inscription "POSTE ARROSAGE & INCENDIE" and the Bayard brand cartouche at the bottom. Its original red colour has a patina marked by time, with areas of wear and oxidation that bear witness to its urban past.
The object retains all its elements: the square base with mounting plate, the cylindrical barrel, the moulded head and the domed lid topped with a medallion in relief. The central locking mechanism is also present. The structure is complete and stable, resting solidly on its original base plate with holes for anchoring to the ground.
Authentic and unrestored, this Bayard fire hydrant is both a decorative piece with a strong industrial character and a sought-after collector's item for lovers of antique street furniture and Lyonnais cast iron.

The Bayard foundry, established in Lyon in the 19th century, specialized in the production of cast iron equipment intended for water distribution and fire protection. The Lyon-based company supplied many French cities with hydrants, fire posts and fire plugs, becoming a reference in the field of industrial valves and fittings.
Bayard hydrants from the interwar period are recognizable by their thick cast iron, their moulded inscriptions and their characteristic cylindrical silhouette. They equipped streets, factories and public buildings, contributing to the development of urban water networks. Today, these pieces are sought after for their historical value and their industrial aesthetic.
