Plaque métro Parisien Stalingrad 1950 130cm enamelled by Laborde

This Plaque Métro parisien Stalingrad is an authentic curved enamelled plaque in the format and colours typical of Paris metro signage in the 1950s: dark blue background, white lettering in large capitals, white edging. It bears the signature of the Parisian enameller "Les Frères Laborde" in the lower right, a mark of authenticity recognised by collectors of RATP plaques.
The patina is entirely original, with the hue and doming characteristic of production from this period. The enamel shows the slight natural ageing of a piece over 70 years old, without altering the legibility of the lettering or the visual impact of the whole. The large format reinforces the presence of the plaque, which stands on its own as a decorative wall piece.
This Plaque Métro parisien Stalingrad is ideal for collectors of urban signage, lovers of Parisian décor or enthusiasts of transport history. Hung in a corridor, office, flat or shop, it immediately adds a touch of authentic Paris, in direct reference to the graphic identity of the post-war metro.

The Laborde Frères enamelling workshops, based in Paris, produced advertising and industrial enamel signs from at least the 1950s. Their output covered urban signage, commercial signs and transport plates, notably for the RATP. The “Email Laborde Frères” signature in the bottom right corner of the plates is now a recognised reference point for collectors, attesting to the origin and quality of manufacture.
The enamelling process used by Laborde involves firing coloured glass powders applied onto a steel backing, guaranteeing exceptional resistance and colour retention over time. These stencil-made plates, fired at high temperature, have lasted decades without losing their lustre, which explains their regular appearance at flea markets, auction houses and private collections dedicated to Parisian urban heritage.
