This Industrial column lamp is an old explosion-proof suspension lamp repositioned vertically on a cast-iron base. The aluminium body has been stripped and given a varnished graphite finish, revealing the raw material while protecting the metal. The glazing is period Securit wired glass, held in place by the original metal clips on all four sides of the column.
The lighting is provided by 5 E27 bulbs arranged in a column, with a dimmer integrated directly into the body of the lamp. The light produced is warm and diffused, and can be adjusted to suit the mood required. The cast-iron base ensures stability to match the dimensions of the whole unit.
Thanks to its height and verticality, this Industrial column lamp acts as a structuring element in an interior - both as an accent light and as a decorative piece in its own right in a loft, workshop or flat with an industrial feel.

Explosion-proof light fixtures are designed for use in environments where flammable gases or dust may be present: mines, refineries, chemical plants, and industrial warehouses. Their construction is based on a principle of total containment: the housing — typically aluminum or cast iron — is assembled so that any internal ignition cannot propagate to the outside. The wired glass, reinforced by a metal mesh embedded within the pane, resists impact and overpressure without shattering.
Produced in large quantities from the 1940s and 1950s onward to equip heavy industrial sites, these fixtures are today decommissioned during facility upgrades. Their robust construction, solid aluminum bodies, and wired glass panels make them particularly valued bases for conversion into lighting with a strong industrial character.
