Playmobil: The Movie, released in August 2019, is the first feature-length animated film entirely dedicated to the universe of the German brand Playmobil, founded in 1974. Directed by Lino DiSalvo and Audia Dara Osman, the film was distributed worldwide by Studiocanal and generated significant box office returns in European and Asian markets. The screenplay blends adventure, comedy, and the fantastical settings typical of Playmobil, featuring characters across a range of thematic universes: the Far West, the Middle Ages, and outer space. The film notably includes a secret agent spy-detective character, embodying the gentleman spy archetype drawn from Playmobil’s historical toy ranges.
To support the film’s worldwide release in 2019, Playmobil produced a very limited series of oversized figures under official license, intended for premium retail window displays, cinemas, and promotional events.
