This enamelled sheet-metal jug, with an elongated conical shape and approximately 45 cm in height, features a beautiful azure-cyan blue speckled with black, characteristic of the marbled enamels of the 1950s. It is distinguished by its flared spout, its neck encircled by a raised band, and its long, flat handle attached to the body. This vintage wash jug, formerly used with a washbasin, boasts an elegant and timeless silhouette.
The piece is in very good overall condition and retains its original patina: the enamel remains vibrant and even, with a few small rust marks on the rims and base which attest to its authenticity and add to the charm of this vintage item. There are no deformities or holes to report, meaning it can be used as a decorative piece with complete confidence.
This enamelled tin jug will appeal to lovers of antiques and vintage décor, collectors of antique enamelware, and anyone who enjoys repurposing everyday objects: it makes a superb vase for large flowers or branches, an original umbrella stand or a characterful plant pot. Its azure blue colour adds a vibrant, retro touch to any interior.

Until the mid-20th century, in most French households without running water, the pitcher and its basin constituted the daily washing equipment, placed on a bedroom table or chest of drawers. Manufactured in large quantities from pressed steel sheet coated with oven-fired enamel, these utilitarian objects appealed for their robustness, lightness, and ease of maintenance, and were produced in a wide range of colors, among them marbled or speckled enamels.
With the arrival of running water and modern bathrooms in the 1950s and 1960s, these pitchers lost their primary function but found a second life at flea markets and in interior decoration. Today sought after for their antique market aesthetic and strong colors, they are repurposed as vases, plant pot covers, or umbrella stands, reflecting the contemporary taste for giving old objects new purpose and for decorative finds.
