This pair of Rossignols Olympic 41 Vintage skis measures 200 cm and is made from hickory wood, a timber renowned for its flexibility and strength. The top surface, with its amber varnish revealing beautiful wood grain, features decorative stripes and period engravings, whilst the base is painted a bright red. Each ski is fitted with its original metal cable binding and aluminium plates, and a metal tip guard at the rear.

The pair retains its original patina and is in magnificent condition: the wood has retained its warm, deep colour, the bindings are complete and the paint on the bases retains its lustre despite signs of wear. A pair of Rossignol hickory skis from this era, complete with their original bindings and in such good condition, has become a rarity on the vintage sports market.

These Rossignol Olympic 41 Vintage skis are ideal for collectors of vintage ski equipment, enthusiasts of mountain-themed décor, chalet-style interiors or bars with an alpine atmosphere, as well as anyone wishing to add an authentic touch to their home. Whether hung on the wall or placed in a corner, they make for a decorative feature that is both elegant and steeped in history.

Founded in 1907 in Voiron, in the Isère, by Abel Rossignol, a carpenter by trade, the Rossignol brand quickly established itself as one of the great names in French skiing. Made from ash, hickory or walnut, the first Rossignol skis were renowned for their quality of construction and their performance on snow, and the company grew alongside the rise of winter sports, which gained widespread popularity in France in the interwar years and again after 1945.

In the 1950s, skiing experienced a genuine surge in popularity, driven by the successes of French champions at the Olympic Games and by the democratisation of mountain resorts. Wooden skis were then gradually overtaken by metal-core constructions and later composite materials. Today, these vintage hickory skis, with their elegant lines and amber varnish, have become appreciated collector’s and decorative objects, witnesses to the early days of modern skiing.
