This Duval industrial suspension luminaire is a product of Parisian urban lighting, manufactured by the Duval company in the 1960s. The hemispherical body is made of cast aluminium, whose pickled and polished surface develops changing reflections - silver, gold and iridescent blue - depending on the incidence of light. The top bonnet, also in cast aluminium, has a characteristic ventilation slot and houses the original chrome chain suspension rose.
The reflecting dome in curved prismatic glass is held in place by a series of original brass clamps and screws, whose golden hue contrasts with the dark metal of the body. This glass, characteristic of the industrial luminaires of this generation, diffuses and distributes the light evenly while providing mechanical protection for the bulb. All the hardware is period, unreplaced, contributing to the authenticity of the piece.
This Duval industrial pendant fits naturally into an industrial, loft or workshop interior - above a table, a kitchen island or as ambient lighting in a space with generous headroom. An authentic piece of Parisian street lighting, not reproduced, with a strong decorative character and a rare visual presence.

Industrial pendant lights from the 1950s and 1960s represent one of the richest areas of French lighting design heritage. Produced by specialist manufacturers such as Duval, Mazda, Sammode and Gras to equip factories, warehouses, workshops and public spaces, they were designed to meet demanding requirements of robustness, light efficiency and durability. Their hemispherical forms in cast aluminium, often combined with prismatic or Holophane glass bowls, are the result of both technical and aesthetic thinking characteristic of the applied arts of the post-war period.
Gradually withdrawn from service during the renovation of public and industrial lighting in the 1980s and 1990s, these pendants have found a second life in the world of interior decoration and design. Their imposing scale, the quality of their materials and their natural patina make them pieces that are difficult to reproduce faithfully. Complete examples with their original hardware — brass screws, clamps and period chains — are today the most sought after by decorators and collectors of industrial furniture.
