This urban globe lamp comes from the public lighting of the city of Paris. Its large-diameter, frosted white Plexiglas globe rests on a black-lacquered metal base with a circular base, raised slightly to give the sphere a clear, unobstructed view and ensure even, 360-degree light distribution. The whole unit is supplied with 220V power and wired for immediate indoor use.
The light produced is soft and well diffused, with no shadows or direct reflections. The Plexiglas globe has the natural patina of an object that has been used in a public space, with a few light surface marks that do not detract from the luminous quality. The matt black structure contrasts effectively with the white of the globe.
The proportions and clean lines of this urban globe lamp make it equally at home as a table lamp on a high piece of furniture or as a small floor lamp in a corridor, living room or workspace. An object of urban Parisian salvage, with an identified provenance.

Parisian public lighting underwent several major phases of modernisation throughout the 20th century, with the gradual introduction of new technologies — mercury, sodium, then fluorescent — and new materials for globes and diffusers. Plexiglass, which emerged in the 1930s and became widespread after the war, progressively replaced glass in street lanterns for reasons of weight and impact resistance. Frosted white plexiglass spherical globes mounted on metal poles became standard in Parisian pedestrian areas, parks, and squares from the 1960s and 1970s onward.
Decommissioned during urban furniture renewal cycles, these lamps find a second life in interior decoration. Their simple form and diffused light make them compatible with a wide range of interiors — from the most contemporary to the most industrial — without requiring any modification or restoration.
