This pair of LAUDA VS HUNT Formula 1 helmets comprises two official 1:1 scale replicas, built on a Bell shell and painted by the Eric Aeromagic workshop, which specialises in the reproduction of racing helmets. The first features Niki Lauda’s red Marlboro livery, whilst the other features James Hunt’s black Marlboro/Texaco livery; both are faithful down to the smallest detail to the helmets worn during the 1976 season, one of the most famous rivalries in the history of Formula 1. Each helmet is presented in its own plexiglass display case, ready for display.

The set is in collector’s condition, with no yellowing of the display cases and no deterioration of the paintwork or decals, which retain their full lustre. The quality of craftsmanship in Eric Aeromagic’s replicas, recognised amongst collectors of motoring memorabilia, guarantees remarkable fidelity to the original helmets. A complete set of both helmets, with their respective display cases and in such condition, is rare to find together.

These LAUDA VS HUNT Formula 1 helmets are aimed at collectors of Formula 1 memorabilia, enthusiasts of motor racing history and those who appreciate décor evoking the golden age of F1 in the 1970s. The Lauda–Hunt rivalry, immortalised notably on the big screen, continues to fascinate motor racing enthusiasts, making this lot particularly sought-after.

The 1976 Formula 1 season remains one of the most storied in the history of motorsport, defined by the intense duel between Austrian Niki Lauda, the reigning Ferrari champion, and British McLaren driver James Hunt, whose temperament was as flamboyant as his driving. This rivalry, intensified by Lauda’s terrible accident at the Nürburgring and his heroic return to racing just weeks later, was decided at the very final Grand Prix in Japan, where Hunt claimed the world title by a single point.

The helmets of these two drivers — Lauda’s Marlboro red and Hunt’s black — have become visual icons of this rivalry, brought to a wider audience well beyond the racing world through the 2013 film Rush. Official full-scale replicas of these helmets, produced by specialist workshops such as Eric Aeromagic, allow collectors to own a fragment of this legendary chapter in Formula 1 history — a story of sporting rivalry and genuine friendship between the two men.
