This Shell Satam petrol pump is a genuine French pump from 1955, restored in its Shell yellow and red colours while retaining its original components. The lacquered steel body, the "ESSENCE" and "Shell" front plates, the Satam dial in francs and litres and the chrome-plated nozzle make up a coherent whole ready for display. Double-sided and backlit, it has metering glass on both sides, powered by a 220 V electrical system suitable for decorative interior use.

The piece is topped with its vintage Shell shell opaline, in moulded white glass with red lettering, which is particularly sought-after by collectors. This Shell Satam petrol pump is described in collector's condition, with hose, pistol and complete casing, with no missing parts. Its column format makes it easy to install against a wall or as an island, in a collector's garage, a car showroom or a vintage decorating space.

A rare object in this entirely original configuration, it illustrates the design of French service stations from the mid-1950s. It can be integrated as the centrepiece of a car décor, combined with enamelled plates, cans and workshop furniture, or used as the focal point in a bar or shop with a retro identity.

Old petrol pump globes, such as this Shell seashell, were designed to be visible from a distance and to indicate the fuel brand as soon as you approached the station. Made of glass or thick opaline glass, they diffused a soft light when lit from the inside, both day and night.

Highly sought after today, these globes form a collecting field in their own right, with varied shapes (round globes, shields, shells, typographic logos) and versions specific to each oil company. When combined with their original pump, they provide a complete record of the visual style of service stations from the 1930s to the 1960s and naturally find their place in interiors dedicated to the history of motoring and advertising.
